India is the first country to land its spacecraft on the surface of the Moon | Reommark Group
Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has touched down on the surface of the moon, making India the first country to successfully land a spacecraft near the south pole of the Moon. All previous Moon missions have touched down near the equator - but exploring the south pole is key to the hunt for water. Scientists now hope to send a rover to send images and data back to Earth.
Prime Minister Modi, addressing the Isro (Indian Space Research Organization) control room, says in Hindi, his mind is on Chandrayaan-3 like everyone else in his country. He has congratulated Isro and all other Indians for this important achievement.
