News | Hospitals Should Care for the Elderly | Reommark HitsTZ

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (Health) Prof. Abel Makubi has instructed all Referral Hospitals in the country to ensure that all elderly people who go to those hospitals for treatment, are provided with the best care from the time he arrives at the hospital, from tests to treatment, as this is known to policy.

Prof. Makubi issued the order during his visit to the Regional Referral Hospital - Mwanyamala in Dar es Salaam during his visit to see the state of service delivery at the hospital.

He said in addition to setting up coordinators to oversee the treatment of the elderly in these hospitals, each hospital must ensure that it has specialized caregivers who will care for the elderly from the gate and direct them to all areas where they can receive care without any inconvenience.

"Our elders must get the best possible care, from receiving him, taking him to a place to receive care, tests, to medicine or if he is going to be hospitalized until he leaves, so for the elderly please don't play with them, these are instructions and must be implemented" said Prof Makubi.

In another step the Secretary General Prof. Makubi said the issue of the Police Proof of Treatment (PF3) form should not be an obstacle for a citizen who has had an accident and failed to get emergency care because of the form, thus instructing other health care facilities and hospitals to ensure that the PF3 procedure is prepared when sick or the injured being treated.

Prof Makubi said it was surprising that a citizen was missing emergency medical care in case he missed PF3, so the perpetrators should prepare a good procedure with the Police Force to follow to ensure citizens receive emergency services without any inconvenience.

"From now on all service delivery centers so that I do not hear of someone missing services who had an accident because of PF3, I ask that we implement this, the PF3 procedure should be prepared while the person is receiving services." Bad.

Regarding the issue of preventing corpses in some hospitals in the country due to failure to pay medical bills, the Secretary General said the matter has been instructed since the last phase and the rest and continue to implement the instructions. If there is a deceased suspect, the hospitals should arrange for other relatives to be involved early and reach an agreement without interruption.

Prof. Makubi added that no one is allowed to prevent the corpse due to debt, and it is not our policy Tanzanians but asked citizens to cooperate with the hospital by contributing to the cost of care for their patients in advance.

For her part, the Chairperson of the Board of Mwananyamala Hospital Ms. Anna Maembe said the hospital has now changed significantly in the provision of health services due to the improvements made by the government however she asked the Secretary General to continue to work with the hospital to continue to solve the challenges that continue to face so that they can provide better services to citizens.
