Donald Trump has insisted he does not agree with the US election results, but has appeared to accept the results for the first time that his Democrat opponent Joe Biden has won.
"He won the election because the electoral process was rigged," he wrote on his Twitter page but after a few minutes he said he did not mean he had lost the November 3 election. Mr Trump reiterated his allegations of electoral fraud. He filed a lawsuit against the allegations but did not provide any evidence of such theft. All his charges have been ignored. On Friday, election officials said this year's election was the safest in U.S. history and there was no evidence that the ballots were lost or stolen or that there was any problem with the election being questioned or invalid.
Despite that explanation, Trump did not admit that Biden won the election so far. On Friday, White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany told Fox News: "President Trump believes he will be president for a second term." In a press conference the same day, Mr Trump said "Who knows what authority will be in power in the future". Despite acknowledging Biden's victory in a tweet this Sunday, the president added "I do not agree with ANYTHING!".
Thousands of Trump supporters marched in Washington DC on Saturday to protest their claims. Peace protests erupted in the evening after the protesters began rioting. Officials said 20 people had been charged with various offenses including assault and possession of a firearm.
One incident of a man being stabbed was reported with two policemen injured. There is currently a strong impetus for Trump to prepare to hand over power peacefully.
The Government Service Agency (GSA) government agency is responsible for starting the process of identifying Biden and his deputy Kamala Harris as winners.
